Because Quite Frankly, Everybody Else Just Sucks!

DJ Jamie was born a poor caucasian child on Long Island, in 1977. He was a little too young to get more than just a little of the musical flavor from his neighborhood, but it still made an impression. He moved with his family on his ninth birthday to Sebastian, Florida. This is where he was eventually exposed to Country music, and a lot of the oldies. It's also when he first discovered 2 Live Crew. At 18 he moved to Ft. Lauderdale to attend College, began working for Sony PPC (with Sound Mixers and Production/Television Equipment), where he first heard Southern Rock (Yes, Skynyrd baby!).
He was also introduced to karaoke for the first time, performing "Tomorrow" from Annie for his Sociology Final. (Some people would say he was intoxicated during this first public performance, in drag. Jamie described it as "Tore out of my mind") DJ Jamie Sony Image

After Graduation, Jamie did a short stint working for a major technology company in Oregon, then he was politely asked to get the hell off their premises and moved back to Florida. While delivering pizza, he spotted a sign for karaoke at a local bar in Satellite Beach, and soon found himself the fill-in DJ for Stargazer Karaoke. (Thanks Clark and Judy!)

A year or so later Jamie moved back to Ft. Lauderdale to work for the same company he worked at during College. The first night he went out to karaoke after moving back, he met Tommy Boombotz in a seedy little joint called Alehouse Rock Cafe. The Karaoke host was terrible, but Tommy and Jamie became fast friends.

When asked about his first meeting with Jamie, the man who eventually became DJ Botz said with a tear in his eye, "He was like the fat bastard brother I never wanted."

The two went on to form Old Skool Sound LLC, which started with a karaoke show in another seedy beer joint in the Ft. Lauderdale area. DJ Botz branched off in to spinning, and engineering, while Jamie took more to the live entertainment and Emceeing duties. They formed the "Good Ole Blues Brothers Boys Tribute" which played at sold-out local night clubs, all the way to Tampa, and was even booked for Atlantic City! (The boys were cancelled when Dan Akroyd and Jim Belushi did a charity event within a week of the scheduled date. Those bastards!)

Jamie was eventually offered a gig at a Club inside the largest mall in south Florida, which he took. This proved to be a great success, prompting Jamie to quote Johnny Paycheck to his boss.

With a background in Emceeing, Current Rock, Classic Rock, Country, Hip Hop, R&B, Rap, FreeStyle, Oldies, and more, he took the next logical step. He became a Strip-Club DJ.

Working at the worst/busiest Hole-in-the-Wall Bar in the area, he learned from his fellow DJ's about how to work older crowds, and entertain more diverse audiences. A favorite of the dancers and customers, for his witty remarks, down to earth style, and the fun atmosphere he encouraged, he didn't fare as well with management, due to his strict "once per hour" rule, regarding how often a dancer should be made to dance on stage. When a manager told him "you put her on stage or your f'ing fired" regarding one of only three dancers on a slow shift, Jamie yanked the music wire, jumped on top of the DJ booth and announced in to the Microphone, "Oh yeah, killer, well I quit!" This prompted a rather abrupt removal from the club.

Jamie eventually went on to DJ for the hottest Club in West Palm Beach! (They gave him a day shift though, and he overslept, prompting his much more subtle dismissal)

Jamie fronted the band "Where's Joey D?", and as the Blues Brothers, he and Tommy did a circuit of the popular Beach Place Club Scene.

Jamie was on the Front Page of the Sun-Sentinel with an accompanying story on September 17, 2006. He has been on TV twice for his work with the Blues Brothers Tribute Show, as well as write-ups in several other local magazines/papers, both for his work as a DJ, and with local charities. DJ Jamie has been involved with fund raisers for Transplant Patients, the Motorcycle Toy Run, Toys for Tots, Joe Dimaggio's Children's Fund, and more!

Currently, Jamie is flat-broke, singing for loose change in an airport cafe. Well, maybe it's not that bad. DJ Jamie just moved back to the Central/Coastal Florida area, (That's Melbourne to Vero Beach, and the Orlando area) to entertain using his distinctive style (you say distinctive, I say, intoxicated) for a whole new audience! He also has plans to form a new band, and work on his demo.

If you are looking for a drunken crazy person to entertain at your nightclub or bar, or a karaoke show, please call DJ Jamie anytime after 2 pm (should be awake by then) to schedule a meeting. If you have a band and need a front man, and are serious about practicing and recording and making it big, please don't bother. If you are a band and need another drunk to have a blast and do it for the Badonkadonk, (not that we mind the glory or free whiskey) call me right now.
